CYPRESS ROOTS MOVEMENT SCHOOL

"Learn how to move with the natural forces of gravity on WATER OR LAND"

MOVING BEYOND TRADITIONAL FITNESS

Cypress Roots Movement School was founded by Melody Benton in 2020 as an educational platform for better moving bodies moving more naturally to decrease stress & improve longevity. My holistic fitness approach invites the human being to re-wild their spirit by moving with tuned-in awareness and more creatively in your home, at work and at the gym to expand your body capabilities and outdoor activities. As domesticated, indoor human adults we have lost access to natural movement patterns that keep the body strong, mobile and in tune with nature.

The body has integrated muscular connections from head to toe. Through foot mobility exercises, grounding primitive posturing, and bio-mechanical re-patterning, the whole body begins to experience these integrated pathways of wholeness to move and live at your full human potential!

Whether you are an athlete or a beginner mover wanting to improve whole body mobility and/or decrease pain or joint dysfunction I can help. I have 20 years of knowledge and experience with all bodies and levels across multiple disciplines. My unique embryological coaching cues gives your body new language to remember what it means and feels like to be whole moving with it’s environment. Return to your ROOTS of playfulness & wholeness the way nature intended.

About the Founder

Melody Benton is a disciplined mover and a lifelong student of movement, community, partnership, and healing. Over the last 20 years, she has explored the deep connections between the body, mind, and spirit. As a movement educator, she has a gift to help others connect deeply with themselves through movement; live and move in ways once believed impossible; and most importantly, change the way one feels their existence in this infinite wild world.

Melody’s movement foundations began at four years of age with dance which led her into cheerleading at age twelve which became her primary solace and motivation through her childhood challenges.  Early motherhood at 19 fed her desire to succeed through life’s obstacles and she returned to college as a single mother where she decided to focus on a career that supported her love and passion for movement and helping others heal through the portal we call the “body.”  She became a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2002 which expanded her knowledge and began her thirst for more in the world of health and fitness. Since 2008, her knowledge and experience have grown tremendously through the integration of the mind-body-spirit focused modalities of Pilates, Yoga, and Thai-Yoga bodywork.

Over the past 10 years, she has followed her heart and passions into the world of primal, natural movement, play, flow, and full embodiment. This is most evident when she is around water, her favorite natural mermaid environment. She radiates pure joy and is the epitome of flow state when on the water or exploring barefoot in nature.

When on land, she explores and practices “partnering” through Acro-Yoga. She faces fear and physical challenge through most of her chosen sports to push her boundaries and honor her limits. She loves hikes that include tree climbs, bounding over boulders, and balancing on ledges and rocks. She’ll never pass up a grassy or sandy area to practice handstands. These multiple expressions of movement are nutrition to her soul and are the physical manifestations of her daily foundational movement practices and studies of EMBODIED pilates, yoga & restorative exercise for the past 10 years.

As a seeker of truth, Melody is more than just a coach or teacher of movement. She lives what she teaches, expressed by her passion to learn and discover a deeper relationship with herself, others and life through daily embodied movement.
